The Wire
Set in Baltimore, Maryland, The Wire is an American television drama series created, produced, and written by author and former police reporter David Simon. The show encompassing 60 episodes was aired over 5 seasons, premiering on June 2, 2002 and ending on March 9, 2008. The show chronicles the sage of multi generational family business dealing with illegal drugs and the efforts of the police to wipe them out. Each season centers on different facets of the city of Baltimore like drug trade, corruption around port, bureaucracy, school education system and print media. It draws parallel between men and women working for and against law to expose that there is precious little difference between those who are respected by the society and those who are socially castigated.
The show is appreciated for its realistic portrayal of urban life and artistic ambition. It has frequently been acclaimed as the greatest television series of all times by the critics.
