Rome

This British costume drama, set in 52 BC Rome, chronicles the turbulent transition of Roman republic into autocratic empire. BAFTA, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated historical drama series, Rome, originally premiered 28th August 2005. The show depicts the saga of the tumultuous shift both from the point of view of rich, powerful and ‘historically significant’ like Julius Caesar, his family and his adopted successor Octavian Augustus, their political allies and adversaries and the politically naïve point of view of ordinary Romans especially the soldiers Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo and their families.
Julius Caesar returns home after eight years of war with thousands of war hardened and loyal men along with enormous amount of loot in the form of gold and slaves and a populist agenda for radical social change. A terrified aristocracy threatens to prosecute Caesar for war crimes as Caesar’s one time friend and mentor Pompey Magnus tries to foment a rebellion to maintain the balance of power. Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo, two of Caesar’s loyal soldiers thwart his plans and earn the eternal gratitude of Caesar and his clan. Before they could realize, the fate of these two plebeians become intertwined with that of Caesar, Mark Antony, Cleopatra and the boy Octavian, who is destined to become the first emperor of Rome.
